March is National Nutrition Month and the Baptist Health System has re-committed to serving a healthy ¡Por Vida! menu option every day in their cafeterias throughout their San Antonio hospitals including Mission Trials, Northeast, North Central, Medical Center, and St. Luke's. The ¡Por Vida! meal option will be in their hot line, clearly marked with the ¡Por Vida! logo and the nutrition facts for the meal close to the line.
Baptist Health System joined the ¡Por Vida! program in 2013, making a bridge between healthy options in the healthcare setting to the healthy options out in the community, in restaurants. For many people, the hospital is place they may receive a new diagnosis from a doctor and are in a time of change and crisis, educating patients and family members on good nutrition at this time sets them up for success when they are released home to manage their chronic disease.
Not only is ¡Por Vida! good for the patients and families of the health system, good nutrition is important for the healthcare workers themselves.
