Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill, a fast casual restaurant on Huebner Oaks, joined ¡Por Vida!, a Metro Health healthy dining program. Owners Michael and Freda Lynn Ahlstrom see a partnership with Metro Health as furthering their social commitment to the health of their community.
“We are happy to bring the bold and authentic flavors of the Mediterranean region to San Antonio and to partner with Metro Health to educate the community on how to eat for health with fresh cuisine,” said Michael Ahlstrom, owner of Garbanzo Mediterranean Grill.
A ¡Por Vida! registered dietitian analyzed several Garbanzo entrees and sides to ensure they meet ¡Por Vida! Nutritional criteria. ¡Por Vida! nutritional criteria states a meal cannot exceed 700 calories, 8 grams of saturated fat, zero grams of trans fat, 12 grams added sugar, and 750 mg of sodium (salt). ¡Por Vida!-approved items may not be fried or contain hydrogenated oils (trans-fat).
¡Por Vida! menu items available at Garbanzo include: the Grilled Chicken Plate with Hummus, Tabuleh, Lettuce, & Tzatiki Sauce, the Chicken Kabob Plate with Baba Ganoush, Tabuleh, & Red Cabbage, the Steak Kabob Plate with Baba Ganoush, Tabuleh, Lettuce, & Tahini Sauce, and the Portobello Plate with Baba Ganoush, Rice, Red Cabbage, & Cilantro Sauce. All ¡Por Vida!-approved items are listed on www.PorVidaSA.com, which is updated frequently as new options are added.
“We welcome Garbanzo to San Antonio’s healthy dining community” says Anna Macnak, Metro Health’s Chronic Disease Prevention Dietitian. “We now have 15 restaurant partners committed to offering healthy choices in the community serving at more than 120 locations in our community.”
